Frequently Asked Questions
Is hair reduction with the LightSheer Diode laser permanent?
The LightSheer Diode laser is the only laser of its kind FDA approved for permanent hair reduction.
How many treatments are required?
The number of treatments depends on the type of hair (colour, coarseness and density) and area treated, due to variation of hair growth cycles in different regions of the body. Exact cost and treatment estimates are given at the initial consultation. Please contact us for more details.
Does it hurt?
Although topical anaesthetic cream is available, most clients do not need it.
How long does treatment take?
Treatment times vary depending on size of target area, for example, from 5mins for upper lip to just over an hour for the lower legs or back.
How will skin look after treatment?
Dermal response varies from person to person depending on different things like darkness and coarseness of hair, density of growth, and sensitivity of skin. There is virtually no down-time afterward and most people return to normal activity right away. Visible signs may include slight pinkness or swelling of treated skin that improves almost immediately post-treatment as the skin cools down.
Is treatment effective for all genders?
Yes!
What causes excess hair growth?
Unwanted hair growth can be caused by genetics, irregular hormone levels and some medications. Unwanted hair growth is also very subjective to an individual and requires sensitivity and understanding to ensure an effective and complete treatment protocol is maintained. Great attention to detail is necessary when treating growth at the follicular level.
What are the advantages over electrolysis?
Electrolysis can be an excellent method for treatment of white, red and blonde hair (which do not absorb laser light efficiently), and hair from areas where it is difficult to use the laser such as under the eyebrow. Electrolysis is performed one follicle at a time, proving to be very time consuming for both large and small areas of the body. This makes it a very tedious method of permanent hair removal and a difficult undertaking for some clients.
Laser hair removal is non-invasive and rapid with LightSheer Diode lasers as many follicles are treated with each pulse and individual pulses are delivered multiple times per second. LightSheer Diode lasers permanently treat ‘active’ follicles, including those where the hair shaft has not yet reached the surface of the skin, where a follicle has an ingrown hair shaft or where the follicle is not straight up and down. Sometimes a combination of laser hair removal and electrolysis is used in individual target areas, lasering the dark hair followed up by electrolysis on the leftover white ones.
